Less than one-fifth of all plastic manufactured each year gets recycled, and more than half of it is generated for single-use purposes. Plastic waste management is the successful transformation of plastic trash into innovative and better products . Every living thing on the planet is affected by plastic pollution since fossil fuels make up 99% of all plastic. Fossil fuels have a negative environmental impact and emit large amounts of greenhouse gases, which contribute to climate change. Plastics are pervasive and contain several compounds that never break down. Plastics that shatter into tiny bits are referred to as microplastics which is very harmful for the environment . we all need to choose one either PLASTIC OR PLANET . we need to reduce down the consumption of Single - USE PLASTIC Single use plastics are materials used in packaging and other products that are intended to be used just once before being disposed. Single use plastics require a significant amount of energy, water, and natural resources for few minutes instead of single use plastics we can have many alternatives which will ultimately help in decreasing down the usage of natural resources and emission will be less. Micro plastics are more dangerous as we can not even see it with our naked eyes and we consume it daily in water , food and many more things . we can minimise the generation of micro plastic by reducing the plastic waste management. As plastics cause disease and lead to daily deaths from those diseases, we have little time left to save the planet from plastics.
We can get one step closer to a more sustainable and plastic-free future by putting these suggestions into practise.
1) UPCYCLING: It is one of the basic method which can help in preventing plastic to reach the landfills, oceans, seas. Upcycling helps in transforming waste into innovative and useful products and thus reduce the use of plastics. For example:
Plastic Bottle Organizers:
Upcycling throwaway bottles into organisers will help you control the clutter in your house. Depending on your demands, cut the bottles horizontally or vertically, and then decorate them as you choose. Store kitchen tools, business materials, or even cosmetics brushes in these useful containers.
Plastic Bottle Planters:
We can create a good and creative planter with the plastic bottle by cutting it into two part Create an eye-catching planter by painting, hanging cloth
2) Plastic waste into energy conversion: Plastic waste can be converted into energy it helps in managing the plastic into value. It also decrease down the usage of fossil fuels and move closer to a more sustainable and circular approach to waste
management . The energy converted is emission and free and helps in keeping environment sustainable and green .The Bio CNG gas produced can be utilized as a fuel for transportation fuels.
3) Compostable Alternatives: This method is somewhat can be used as we know every plastic can not be recycled but we can compost the compostable plastics and stop them from reaching the landfills.
